When we start feeling low, lost and confused, know that there is help. Happiness may only be a step away, we just need to seek it. Sometimes it may be as easy as talking to a friend, doing yoga or breathing exercises or going for a walk. Sometimes we have to work harder. But the first step always is to seek help.
Anxiety can take many forms. Social anxiety for example can handicap a lot of people. A research (ref TED talk) showed that the number one fear of most people of the world is Public speaking. If neglected for a long time many disorders can develop around social anxiety. The good news is that with the help of therapists and tools like Cognitive and Acceptance Commitment Therapy anyone can get help.
Thoughts feed beliefs and beliefs feed thoughts. Fearful feelings are often associated with fearful thoughts which are based on old negative beliefs which won't go away even if we try hard. Sometimes they take the form of racing thoughts or persistent compulsive thoughts or obsessive thoughts- all are difficult to either accept or let go. Identifying with such thoughts and associated feelings and not accepting them as they are lead to development of biases in our minds. These further lead to mental disorders and socially unacceptable behaviors.
